Patriotism off the Table

In an inspiring form, Obama made a promise to the American people that needed to be said. From the AP :
“I have found, for the first time, my patriotism challenged - at times as a result of my own carelessness, more often as a result of the desire by some to score political points and raise fears about who I am and what I stand for,” he said before a crowd of a few hundred people at the Truman Memorial Building here. “I will never question the patriotism of others in this campaign. And I will not stand idly by when I hear others question mine.”
While giving a speech in Independence, Missouri Obama removed this weapon from the arsenal of the Republican attacks. This was an excellent move, and I believe comes from an honest place in this man’s heart. It is inspiring to see a politician dealing with adversity in such a public and straightforward manner. Not only has he promised to never question the patriotism of others, but openly admits that it is his own missteps which have allowed this claim to arrise. When is the last time you heard a politician admit to a fault?
